Large S/SW groundswell Sunday/Monday
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 8th April)
Best Days: Thursday morning, Friday morning, later Sunday and Monday in protected spots, Tuesday and Wednesday
Recap
Light onshore wind and 2ft waves yesterday with some more size into today but with poor and fresher onshore winds.
This week (Apr 9 - 10)
Tomorrow morning should finally be clean with today's pulse of SW swell due to ease from 2ft under an early W/NW'ly. Another onshore change is due through the mid-late morning though creating poor conditions into the afternoon.
Friday should then be smaller and more in the 1-2ft range with a morning NW'ly ahead of a SW change through the day.
This weekend onwards (Apr 11 onwards)
Our large and powerful S/SW groundswell event due Sunday/Monday is still on track, but before this we'll see tiny waves through Saturday with a possible late kick in new SW groundswell, peaking Sunday morning. This swell will be generated by a strong but small polar low and should peak Sunday morning to 2ft or so.
Of much greater importance is the polar frontal system firing up directly on the tail of this small polar low, strengthening and being projected up through our southern swell window towards the Tasman Sea by a strong node of the Long Wave Trough sitting just to our east.
A fetch of severe-gale S/SW winds will be projected up perfectly through our southern swell window, generating a large S/SW groundswell for late in the day Sunday, peaking overnight and easing through Monday.
Clifton should build to 6ft+ late in the day Sunday and then ease from the 6ft range Monday morning.
Protected locations will be the pick Sunday with a fresh W/SW tending S/SW breeze and then early W/SW tending S'ly winds Monday.
The swell should drop further through Tuesday while tending more S'ly and then S/SE in direction, from 3-4ft and then a smaller 2ft+ Wednesday. Winds should swing back to the N'th Tuesday and then NW to SW Wednesday. More on this Friday though.
