Tuesday the pick of the period
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 16th March)
Best Days: Tuesday, Wednesday morning
Recap
Small clean waves Saturday to 1-2ft, while Sunday saw the swell continue in the similar size range but with a lingering onshore after an overnight change.
This change was attached to a strengthening cold front, and the swell from this system has come in a lot bigger than expected this morning with 3ft sets across Clifton.
This week (Mar 17 - 20)
Today's groundswell will back off into tomorrow, only to be replaced by a good new SW groundswell through the day. This swell was generated over the weekend by a strong polar front and we can expect inconsistent 2-3ft sets from mid-late morning across Clifton.
Winds will be good early and from the N'th but a freshening N/NE'ly is due through the day, favouring eastern ends of beaches.
Wednesday looks clean again with a dropping swell from the 2ft range under N/NW breezes.
Into the end of the week there's nothing major on the cards at all.
This weekend onwards (Mar 21 onwards)
We've got a really tricky westerly swell due over the weekend, generated by a strong frontal system pushing through the Bight later this week.
Nearly all the storms activity will be north of our swell window, but the size and strength of the swell should result in some sneaky but inconsistent sets pushing into the South Arm on Saturday.
Size wise we're only looking at 1-2ft waves Saturday before fading Sunday.
Winds are dicey as well, with the front generating the swell due to push through early Saturday, leaving SW winds in its wake.
Into next week an inconsistent and small long-range W/SW groundswell is due Monday afternoon and Tuesday, but with it being generated south-west of WA, no major size above 2ft is due.
More on this Wednesday though.
