Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 5th November)

Best Days: Tiny clean waves Friday morning, Sunday morning

Recap

Monday's swell backed off a fair bit overnight leaving tiny lumpy waves under N/NE winds. Today was terrible with tiny surf and onshore winds.

This week (Nov 6 - 7)

Our tiny and inconsistent pulses of W/SW groundswell for tomorrow afternoon and Friday are still on track, but as stated on Monday the size isn't expected to get above an infrequent 1-1.5ft across Clifton.

Tomorrow will start off clean with N/NW winds but SE sea breezes or at least NE winds are due into the afternoon as the swell kicks. Friday should play out similarly with N/NW tending fresh NE winds.

This weekend onwards (Nov 8 onwards)

Our two pulses of closer-range W/SW swell are still on the cards for Sunday and later Monday/Tuesday.

The swell on Sunday will be generated by a very intense and tight but unfavourably tracking low south-west from the Bight. A short burst of W/SW gales will be directed in our swell window, producing a small pulse of W/SW swell for Sunday coming in at 2ft+ across Clifton Sunday morning under NW winds. Exposed spots to the west should see a lot more size.

A much better mid-latitude low pushing in from the west during the weekend will aim a fetch of W/SW gales through our swell window before projecting up and over us Tuesday evening, aiming an additional fetch of SW winds into us.

This should generate a moderate sized W/SW tending SW swell for late Monday, peaking Tuesday.

Size wise we should see Clifton coming in at 3-4ft Tuesday but winds unfortunately will be poor in the wake of the system pushing up across us with fresh to strong W/SW tending S/SW breeze.

Unfortunately winds will linger onshore from the S/SW as the swell eases from the S'th Wednesday, while Thursday should be clean again but there'll be no real size left. Longer term there's nothing major on the cards unfortunately but check back here Friday for an update on this.
