Southern Tasmania Forecast (issued Friday 26th September)

Best Days: Saturday, Tuesday late morning, Wednesday morning, Thursday morning, Friday

Recap

No real decent swell yesterday, but today the beginnings of a new long-range but good W/SW groundswell were present at a clean 1-2ft across Clifton. The swell should of kicked to a better 2-3ft through the day with the best conditions up until the early afternoon where soon after fresh S/SE sea breezes kicked in.

This weekend (Sep 27 - 28)

This afternoon's increase in long-range W/SW groundswell should ease off through tomorrow, but the morning should still be in the 2ft+ range across Clifton with offshore N/NW tending strong N/NE winds.

Come Sunday there isn't expected to be any size leftover with fading 1ft waves under strong N/NW winds.

Next week onwards (Sep 29 onwards)

We're still looking at a fun period of waves into next week as a strong node (peak) of the Long Wave Trough moves in from the west, through the Bight and across us Tuesday evening.

With this we'll see a flurry of patchy polar frontal activity directed through our western swell window which will initially be a touch too west, and the more favourable from the W/SW.

Our first increase in acute W'ly swell is due Monday afternoon but not above 1ft+ across Clifton. A better pulse is then due Tuesday afternoon and more so Wednesday to 3ft across Clifton with the odd bigger one possibly at the peak of the swell.

Winds look as if they'll be favourable each morning and offshore from the NW before tending W/SW at stages through the afternoons. Thursday as the swell eases back a touch will see less favourable W/NW tending W/SW winds.

We may see one final pulse of more favourable SW groundswell into Friday with offshore NW winds, and beyond this we may see another fun swell for Sunday week, but in the meantime plan around the coming period of waves. Have a great weekend and go Hawks!
