Southern Tasmania Forecast (issued Monday 2nd June)

Best Days: Tuesday, Thursday morning

Recap

The weekend started off good as the swell continued to hold above expectations across the region. A new W/SW groundswell due on Sunday came in as expected with tiny waves across Clifton under offshore winds.

Today a slightly stronger increase in groundswell has offered better 1-2ft sets and this should hold a similar size through tomorrow.

This week (Jun 2- Jun 8)

As touched on above, another long-range and inconsistent W/SW groundswell is due to fill in tomorrow and offer inconsistent 1ft to occasionally 2ft sets across Clifton as winds persist from the N/NE for most of the day.

This swell is expected to ease through Wednesday leaving tiny surf across the South Arm under fresh NW tending W/NW winds.

As touched on in Friday's update, a good W/SW groundswell is due to arrive later Wednesday and peak Thursday, generated by an intense mid-latitude low that's currently under WA. This low will track east just on the edge of our western swell window, producing an acute W/SW groundswell that should peak in the inconsistent 2ft range across Clifton, with much bigger surf at exposed west facing locations.

Winds should be offshore early from the W/NW but a SW change during the day will ruin conditions into the afternoon.

Come Friday there isn't expected to be much size left above 1-1.5ft but winds will be great and from the NW all day.

This weekend onwards (Jun 9 onwards)

Longer term there's still nothing too major on the cards for our region. A polar front firing up below us on Saturday week may generate a small S/SW groundswell for Monday, but before this we may see a junky S'ly windswell for Sunday off a cold front shedding off this polar system. In any case it will be with onshore winds, but we'll review this Wednesday.
