Recap

Poor surf across Middleton yesterday with gusty S/SE winds and plenty of swell, tiny on the Mid Coast and to 1ft, surfable on the right equipment and breaks for the keen.

Today a trough is in the region, bringing good rainfall totals and weaker winds across the South Coast though still onshore. It's not great but surfable while the Mid Coast is tiny and bumpy.

This weekend and week (Nov 25 – Dec 1)

The tricky trough that's bringing today's shift in winds and weather now looks to sit a little further north into tomorrow morning, resulting in less favourable but workable, strong W/NW-W winds in the morning. Swell wise a small mix of background swell energy and windswell look to ease back from the 2ft+ range across Middleton, 2-3ft on the magnets.

Winds will start to shift stronger and from the SW into the afternoon as the trough starts pushing east, with Sunday seeing strong S'ly tending S/SE winds.

This will spoil a good, moderate sized S/SW groundswell that's been generated by a strong polar low that fired up along the polar shelf yesterday, late in our southern swell window. A fetch of severe-gale to storm-force W/NW winds were generated, with the swell due to arrive tomorrow evening, peaking Sunday to 4ft across Middleton (tiny to flat on the Mid Coast).

Winds are due to inflect around to the E/SE temporarily on Monday morning, even possibly tending E'ly and backing off to moderate to fresh before strengthening S/SE into the afternoon and evening.

There'll be a mix of easing S/SW groundswell and local windswell but low in quality with the lack of offshore winds, deteriorating through the day as winds strengthen.

These winds will kick up some further S'ly windswell Tuesday, and conditions will remain poor with strong S/SE winds, tending S'ly on Wednesday, possibly easing and tending S/SW as surface trough retrogrades back from Victoria, towards us.

The local winds into the end of the week revolve around where this trough sits in our region, with them possibly going variable Thursday morning, similar Friday morning.

Swell wise, easing levels of windswell are due across the South Coast, tiny to flat on the Mid Coast.

The outlook following this is divergent so check back here on Monday for the latest. Have a great weekend!
