Recap
Great conditions for beginners on the South Coast with clean tiny waves off Middleton, choppy and wind affected across the Mid Coast. The swell picked up a little late in the day yesterday out of the S/SW and W, and we've got both swells pushing in with more size today.
The South Coast is clean with 2ft+ waves across Middleton, while the Mid is 1-2ft and a little crumbly with variable winds. We should see more consistent 2ft+ waves pushing in with the incoming tide, well worth a surf.
This week and next (Oct 13 - 21)
It'll be worth making the most of the cleanish conditions across the Mid Coast today as besides tomorrow morning, when a light to moderate W/NW breeze is due, conditions will deteriorate with a strengthening N/NW breeze.
We should still see plenty of W'ly energy in the 2ft range but with increasing bumps and chops. The South Coast will be clean but small and only to 2ft as the S/SW energy fades, replaced by inconsistent W/SW energy.
Now, the low linked to the current swell will move across us on Friday, likely boosting wave heights back to 2-3ft on the Mid Coast with similar sized waves across Middleton but with strong W/SW winds, abating through the afternoon. The South Coast should see early W-W/NW winds favouring protected spots.
The weekend looks cleaner and better for a wave across both coasts as the low clears and winds swing N/NW down South. The Mid should see a more variable morning breeze and easing 2ft sets. Down South a mix of easing W/SW swell and small, inconsistent SW groundswell should come in around the 2ft range across Middleton.
Now, our reinforcing swell for Sunday doesn't look to be on the cards anymore, with a much weaker front now expected to push through under the Bight on Friday.
This only looks to maintain small 2ft waves across Middleton, tiny on the Mid Coast, while a better fetch of slow moving W/SW gales around a low attached to the base of the front should generate some better S/SW swell energy for Monday.
Winds at this stage look great Sunday morning and out of the N/NW, giving into afternoon sea breezes, while Monday should offer better 2-3ft sets and N/NE offshores ahead of SE sea breezes.
Longer term, the activity through the Southern Ocean looks weak and patchy with indiscernible pulses of swell expected through the rest of the week. Besides a trough and onshore change Tuesday, winds look light and favourable but we'll have a closer look at this on Friday.
