Easing surf with improving winds over the weekend
South Australian Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 24th January)
Best Days: South Coast magnets Saturday and Sunday mornings, Mid Coast Tuesday
Recap
Average conditions down South again yesterday with messy 2-3ft waves for desperate surfers, while the Mid Coast saw tiny 1ft waves, increasing a little with the incoming tide.
Today we've got a peak in new SW groundswell with slightly bigger 1-1.5ft waves on the Mid Coast that will really show with this afternoon's incoming tide, while Middleton's breaking way offshore with 3-4ft sets and onshore winds.

This week and weekend (Jan 25 – 28)
Today's SW groundswell is currently peaking across the region and we'll see it slowly ease off through the coming days, slowed just slightly by a small reinforcing swell from a weak front that's currently south of us.
Onshore SE tending S/SE winds will continue to plague the South Coast with easing sets from 3ft+ tomorrow morning, down further from 2-3ft Friday. There's a very slim chance more variable SE winds will be seen Friday morning, but it's not worth driving far for. The Mid Coast will be clean but only 1ft tomorrow, tiny Friday.
Conditions will improve through the weekend though, with easing 2ft sets off Middleton Saturday morning and peaky but straightening up with E/NE tending NE winds ahead of sea breezes.
A N/NE breeze will then be Sunday but the surf will be tiny, best at swell magnets during the morning ahead of an afternoon S/SW change.
Next week onwards (Jan 29 onwards)
Sunday's change will be linked to a deep surface trough moving in from the west, bringing strong onshore S/SE winds again though most of next week as a new ridge of high pressure moves very slowly into the Bight.
The trough will actually shed of a weak polar turned mid-latitude frontal progression which will generate some fun W/SW groundswell for early next week. This swell will be hard to distinguish down South, but should fill in across the Mid Coast Monday afternoon but more so Tuesday. We're looking at tiny 1-1.5ft waves, but we'll confirm this on Friday.
