Fun South Coast waves from Thursday
South Australian Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 6th November)
Best Days: South Coast keen surfers Wednesday morning, Thursday morning, Friday afternoon, Saturday
Recap
Poor surf all weekend and into this morning with a junky onshore S/SE windswell across the South Coast and tiny to flat waves on the Mid.
This week and weekend (Nov 7 - 12)
Tomorrow will continue along the same theme as the last couple of days with a small onshore junky S/SE windswell across the South Coast and no decent swell on the Mid.
Later in the day though, and more so Wednesday, a strong new S/SW groundswell is due across the South Coast. This swell was generated over the weekend and into today by a strong polar low generating gale to severe-gale W/SW winds in our southern swell window.
The swell should be seen on dark tomorrow, spiking to 3ft off Middleton, while a peak is due Wednesday morning to 4ft, easing back through the afternoon and further Thursday from 2ft to occasionally 3ft.
Due to the south in the swell, the Mid Coast will remain effectively flat.
Winds will improve a touch down South on Wednesday but remain average with a moderate to fresh morning E/NE-NE'ly, giving into an afternoon S/SE sea breeze. With these winds, conditions will be peaky and far from perfect.
As the swell eases Thursday a better NE-N/NE breeze is due, and exposed breaks will be the best bet for the most size and power.
Come Friday a mix of small and inconsistent W/SW groundswell and building S/SW groundswell are expected across the state.
The W/SW swell is being produced by a distant and intense low sitting west-southwest of WA, generating a small fetch of severe-gale W/SW winds.
This low will dip south-east towards the polar shelf while weakening, before then strengthening again south of us on Wednesday.
The W/SW swell will only come in at an inconsistent 1ft+ or so across the Mid Coast Friday on the favourable parts of the tide, while the S/SW swell should build through the afternoon, reaching 3ft across Middleton.
Winds are looking favourable for both coasts with a fresh NE tending N/NE breeze, variable into the afternoon with possible late sea breezes.
Into the weekend the swells will fade away, with Saturday morning being best down South across swell magnets with a N/NE tending variable breeze, clean again Sunday but tiny.
Longer term next week is looking mostly small, but more on this Wednesday.
