OK weekend, fading surf through next week
South Australian Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 13th October)
Best Days: Spots that like east winds Saturday and Sunday morning down South, Monday morning down South, Tuesday morning at swell magnets down South
Recap
Average onshore waves to 2ft across the Mid Coast yesterday, easing back a touch today with lighter onshore winds. The South Coast was OK yesterday morning with 2-3ft sets along the Middleton stretch, but some better energy has been seen today with clean consistent 3ft waves off Middleton. Winds have since shifted onshore creating average conditions.
This weekend and next week (Oct 14 - 20)
Looking at the outlook for the weekend, and firstly our models are over-forecasting the size due down South, with it incorrectly combining the current mid-period energy with some small long-period groundswell.
A front passing under us last night and early this morning should generate some reinforcing S/SW groundswell for tomorrow, holding around 3ft off Middleton, easing back slowly into Sunday from 2-3ft as a reinforcing S/SW pulse arrives from polar SW gales during today.
The Mid Coast will become tiny, dropping to 1ft tomorrow, near flat Sunday.
Winds are still less than perfect but workable with a light E/NE breeze due tomorrow morning ahead of fresh S/SE sea breezes, similar Sunday. Goolwa and Parsons look to offer the best conditions with peaky clean waves each morning.
A small reinforcing SW groundswell is due on Monday, produced by an unfavourably aligned by good fetch of W/NW gales pushing in from the west over the weekend.
We're looking at inconsistent 2ft to possibly 3ft sets off Middleton through the morning, easing back through the afternoon and becoming small to tiny Tuesday.
Winds will improve Monday with a N/NE offshore ahead of mid-afternoon sea breezes, and then fresh N/NE tending variable winds Tuesday.
As talked about last update a large blocking high will keep both regions quiet into the middle to end of the week, with some new W/SW swell likely late week and into the weekend but with what looks to be S'ly winds. More on this Monday. Have a great weekend!
