Good fun swell for the South Coast from Friday afternoon
South Australian Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 9th August)
Best Days: Friday afternoon South Coast, Saturday and Sunday morning South Coast
Recap
Easing surf with cleaner conditions across all locations yesterday, best down South with easing 3ft waves off Middleton, while the Mid Coast saw lumpy and bumpy 1-2ft sets at magnets.
This morning the swell was starting to bottom out with tiny leftovers on the Mid and easing 1-2ft sets off Middleton.
This week and weekend (Aug 10 - 13)
There'll be no surfing tomorrow with tiny to flat waves down South under a fresh to strong N/NW tending W/NW wind.
This wind will likely kick up some junky windswell across the Mid Coast, but moving into Friday a stronger W/SW groundswell is due.
This swell and a secondary pulse for Saturday have been upgraded, with each being a touch stronger than forecast on Monday.
The first front will move in under the Bight tomorrow, generating a fetch of gale to severe-gale W/SW winds.
It won't be perfectly aligned for the Mid Coast or the South Coast, but we should see sets building to 2-3ft into the afternoon om the Mid with strengthening W/NW winds.
The South Coast will see more size, kicking through the afternoon to the 4ft range across Middleton with gusty W/NW winds.
A secondary quick moving fetch of severe-gale to storm-force W'ly winds will generate an additional SW swell for Saturday morning, but the movement of these real strong winds look too quick to generate any huge size.
We're likely to see Middleton come in around 4ft+ with easing 2ft waves on the Mid Coast.
Winds will actually swing straight offshore from the N/NW creating excellent conditions, persisting Sunday as the swell continues to ease. Middleton is due to ease from 2-3ft, with fading 1ft waves on the Mid.
Next week onwards (Aug 14 onwards)
Next week is looking super tricky, but in summary, we'll be looking at small west swells early.
A broad and multi-centred low is forecast to develop south-west of WA, with various fetches of severe-gale winds either being too north of our swell window, or angled more towards Indonesia.
With this we're only due to see small surf out of the W/SW, with more size as the low moves east and across us mid-week, but we'll look at this again Friday.
