South Australian Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 10th March)

Best Days: Swell magnets Saturday morning, Wednesday and Thursday mornings South Coast

Recap

Great conditions yesterday but tiny across Middleton, with some small waves at Waits and Parsons. The Mid Coast was tiny.

Today a slight increase in new swell was seen down South with variable winds, creating workable conditions for keen surfers, while the Mid remained tiny to flat.

This weekend and next week (Mar 11 – 17)

Today's little kick in swell will ease back into the weekend with tiny surf left across Middleton and flat conditions on the Mid. Waits and Parsons will be the go with inconsistent and easing 2ft+ sets along with a light offshore N/NE breeze, tending variable into the afternoon.

Into Sunday even smaller surf is due down South, with a morning W/NW breeze, strengthening from the S/SW through the afternoon. This should kick up a little swell for the Mid Coast, but only to 1-1.5ft max, easing from a similar size Monday.

The South Coast will see the gusty S/SW tending S/SE winds kick up a poor S'ly windswell for Monday morning but not to any major size and with persistent S/SE winds.

Tuesday will become clean again but with no decent groundswell. Of greater importance is the strong and good SW groundswell due later in the day, peaking Wednesday morning.

The polar low linked to this swell is currently forming in the Heard Island region, with a fetch of severe-gale to storm-force W/NW-W winds due to move through our far south-western swell window this afternoon and tomorrow.

The system will weaken slowly under the country Saturday, leaving the long-period SW groundswell to spread out towards us for later Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

Middleton should see strong 3ft to nearly 4ft waves early Wednesday, easing through the day with a N/NE offshore. The Mid Coast isn't due to see much with maybe 0.5-1ft sets. Thursday looks great at magnets down South as the swell continues easing under a gusty offshore.

We'll confirm this on Monday though. Have a great weekend!
