South Australian Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 10th February)

Best Days: South Coast keen surfers Tuesday morning, South Coast Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings

Recap

Some relief from the heat down South yesterday and today but nothing to surf. Tiny yesterday, with a weak windswell today. The Mid remained flat yesterday while today a flukey W/SW swell has failed to show with glassy flat conditions continuing.

This weekend and next week (Feb 11 – 17)

There's been no change to the poor outlook over the coming few days, with small to tiny and onshore surf expected to continue tomorrow down South with a moderate S'ly wind.

Into Sunday a new SW swell is expected, generated by a good broad but relatively weak frontal system that's currently to our south-west.

We should see good 2-3ft sets across Middleton and tiny 1ft waves on the Mid Coast, but again conditions will be poor with a fresh and gusty S/SW breeze as a stronger polar front pushes up and towards us.

This front will generate a moderate plus sized S/SW swell for Monday and Tuesday morning, with a fetch of strong to sub-gale-force S/SW winds projecting ideally up through our southern swell window.

Middleton should come in at 4-5ft on Monday, easing Tuesday from 3-5ft, smaller Wednesday from 2ft+.

Winds on Tuesday will swing more E'ly creating cleaner but not ideal conditions. Wednesday will be the cleanest with a morning offshore ahead of change through the afternoon.

This change will be linked to an intense low moving in from the south-west, generating a fetch of severe-gale to storm-force W/SW winds late in our southern swell window.

This will produce a good moderate sized pulse of S/SW groundswell, building Thursday and peaking early Friday.

Middleton should increase to 3ft+ Thursday afternoon, easing Friday from 3ft to maybe 4ft. The Mid Coast might see 0.5-1ft sets front the initial stages of the front.

Winds on Thursday will be good and offshore through the morning ahead of sea breezes, and then a morning W/NW'ly Friday will give into a SW change.

Longer term a secondary front should produce more swell for the weekend but with S'ly winds. More on this Monday. Have a great weekend!
