Limited windows of opportunity
South Australian Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 12th December)
Best Days: Tuesday swell magnets on the South Coast, Friday morning South Coast, Sunday morning South Coast
Recap
Excellent waves Saturday with clean 2ft surf on the Mid and good clean 3-4ft waves on the South Coast, easing off into Sunday leaving smaller peakier surf across the South Coast, tiny on the Mid.
Today was another great day down South with clean fun surf under a hot offshore wind. The Mid Coast was back to a tiny 0.5-1ft.
This week (Dec 13 – 16)
If you're looking for a wave tomorrow head to swell magnets across the South Coast. Conditions should be clean with a fresh N/NW offshore, possibly strong at times during the morning, backing off ahead of a late onshore change.
Inconsistent 1-2ft sets are due at Middleton with more size at Waits.
The late change will be linked to a strengthening polar front south of us tomorrow and Wednesday.
The front will generate a strengthening fetch of SW gales through our southern swell window, with a building S/SW windswell due Wednesday along with fresh S/SW tending S/SE winds and then the groundswell Thursday.
Middleton should come in around 3ft+, with 4-5ft waves at Waits and Parsons, easing off slowly through Friday.
The Mid Coast isn't due to see much size at all.
Winds on Thursday will improve but remain less than ideal with a fresh E/SE breeze, while Friday will hopefully see a morning NE'ly.
This weekend onwards (Dec 17 onwards)
A stubborn ridge of high pressure will keep onshore S/SE winds blowing across the South Coast Saturday along with small leftover amounts of swell, while Sunday a new S/SW groundswell and E'ly breeze should create better conditions.
The swell should come from an intense but small polar low late week with good 3ft sets at Middleton. We'll have another look at this on Wednesday though.
