South Australian Forecast (issued Friday 29th July)

Best Days: Saturday and Sunday down South, Wednesday down South

Recap

A strong but inconsistent W/SW groundswell peaked as expected yesterday with 2ft to occasionally 3ft sets on the Mid Coast while the South Coast saw 3ft sets at Middleton with bigger bombs out at Waits and Parsons. Conditions were clean and glassy across both coasts nearly all day with only light sea breezes into the afternoon.

The swell is easing today but still hanging in at an inconsistent 1-2ft on the Mid Coast, while the South Coast is easing from 2-3ft across the Middleton to Goolwa stretch with bigger and better sets at Waits and Parsons.

This weekend and next week (Aug 30 – Sep 5)

The weekend will be great across the exposed beaches on the South Coast as today's swell continues to ease as a couple of smaller long-range SW groundswells fill in.

Middleton should hold around an inconsistent 2ft with 3ft+ sets at Waits and Parsons all day tomorrow and most of Sunday under offshore N'ly tending N/NW winds on the former and N/NW tending W/NW winds on the later. The Mid Coast should see tiny 1ft waves most of the weekend but conditions will be average with the N'ly winds.

The swell will bottom out on Monday and be worth a miss as a cold front moves through with early fresh W'ly winds down South expected to swing SW through the day. The Mid Coast should see a weak windswell building from this change to 1-2ft into the afternoon.

On the South Coast, the front will kick up a weak short-range S/SW swell for Tuesday to a junky 3ft across the Middleton stretch with 4ft sets at Waits. Winds will be poor though and onshore from the S/SW.

Wednesday looks much better as a ridge of high pressure moves in from the west quickly swinging winds offshore from the N'th to N/NW as the swell drops away on the South Coast.

Into the end of the week another small to moderate sized SW groundswell is due Friday but conditions may be a little off with E'ly winds.

Longer term there's still nothing major on the cards for the following week until possibly Friday, but we'll have another look at this on Monday. Have a great weekend!
