Recap
Strengthening onshore winds with building levels of windswell yesterday, building further today in strength and size with favourable winds for protected southern corners.
This weekend and next week (Dec 23 - 29)
We’re currently seeing the first episode of building E/SE-SE swell across the region, generated by a healthy, southward moving low in the Tasman Sea.
A good fetch of strong SE winds are being generated through our eastern swell window and this will continue today before the low weakens and moves further south tomorrow.
This will result in a peak in swell overnight/tomorrow morning, easing into the afternoon from a fun 4ft+ across open beaches with an early SW breeze, shifting fresh SE during the day.
Sunday morning will be nice and clean again with a light W’ly and easing 3ft sets on the magnets, 2-3ft elsewhere. Get in ahead of the sea breeze.
The next deepening low due early next week is a little up in the air regarding its strength. EC has it stronger than GFS again and this will result in more size, but regardless, we’re looking at strengthening E/SE-SE winds on Christmas Day with building levels of windswell.
The low will be quite broad and slow moving, sitting across Victoria and this will see strong E/SE winds persisting on Tuesday as the size builds more, with the low finally drifting south on Wednesday, swinging winds more SE-S/SE.
Size wise we’re probably looking at stormy 4-5ft waves later Tuesday and early Wednesday from the E, improving in southern corners later Wednesday with easing surf Thursday from 4ft under a W’ly offshore wind.
With the divergent model data we’ll have to review this Monday but either way there’s a fun run of swell inbound. Have a great weekend!
