Recap

Strong S swells from a powerful front and polar low created surf to 6ft at S facing beaches yesterday, just a notch smaller today with S/SE winds now tending N/NE in the a’noon.

This weekend and next week (Oct 27 - Nov3)

We’ve still got the building blocks in place for large swells across most of the Eastern Seaboard, with a large high , powerful frontal system, and deepening trough (still expected to form a broad surface low) in the Northern Tasman currently in play. We’ve already seen solid S swells in NETas from the frontal system with smaller surf expected from the sub-tropical low system.

N’ly winds freshen tomorrow as high pressure moves NE of the Island. Easing S swells are expected with a few 2-3ft sets in the morning dropping back to tiny in the a’noon. That drop will be offset by a small boost in NE windswell to 2ft.

Slightly bigger NE windswell on Sun with sets to 2-3ft and winds shifting offshore as a front pushes through. We’ll see an easing trend in the a’noon and winds shift more N/NW-N. We’ll also see some S/SE groundswell from the slowed frontal progression under the South Island with 2-3ft sets.

Source of NE windswell late Sat into Sun

Into next week and S/SE swell eases back and E/NE-NE swell builds to 3ft as a N’ly fetch intensifies off the NSW South Coast. Winds will be from the NW tending W as a large front and low approach from the W.

Offshore winds Tues with some small E/NE swell from the sub-tropical low supplying the occ. 2ft set.

Further ahead and we’ll see inconsistent E/NE-E swell to 2ft Wed and then small surf for the rest of the week.

A compact low may form E of Tasmania on the weekend with a chance of a sizey S swell but we’ll see how that looks on Mon.

Until then, have a great weekend!
