Best Days: Today, keen surfers tomorrow morning and Sunday morning though small and inconsistent, northern corners Thursday afternoon and Friday
Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)
- Small, inconsistent E/NE swell Sat/Sun
- W/NW tending sea breezey to the south tomorrow, W tending S/SE then E/NE Mon
- Building N/NE windswell Thu with gusty N-N/NW winds, easing Fri with N/NW-NW winds
Recap
Good levels of E/NE swell hanging in at 2-3ft yesterday, similar this morning but slowing down.
This weekend and next week (Apr 22 - 28)
Our great run of E/NE swell this week is coming to an end, as the source of swell drifted south across New Zealand and away from our swell window last night.
In saying this, very inconsistent levels of background E/NE swell should hold 1-2ft through the weekend before tailing away into Monday.
Conditions will be great all day tomorrow with a W/NW offshore (giving into weak sea breezes across southern spots), with Sunday seeing W tending S/SE and then E/NE winds.
A series of strong frontal systems passing under the state from west to east will be too zonal in nature to generate any S'ly swell for us, with the next source of swell being from the NE on Thursday.
An approaching mid-latitude low pushing in from the Bight will squeeze a high in the Tasman Sea, bringing strengthening NE winds and a building N/NE windswell Thursday from 2-3ft in the morning to 3-4ft during the day but with gusty N-N/NW winds.
The timing of the front moving through Friday is a little unsure but as it approaches we'll see the swell ease from 3ft with N/NW-NW winds.
Beyond this there outlook is a little uncertain with possible developments in the northern Tasman Sea. More on this Monday. Have a great weekend!
