- Stronger S swell pulses this weekend, peaking Sun
- More S swell pulses next week, Tues and Thurs look biggest with light winds
Recap
Small S swell continued yesterday with 1-2ft surf at S facing beaches and light/variable winds. Today is seeing similar size, more SSE-SE in angle and getting into more beaches with light winds.
This week and next week (Mar 22 - 31)
High pressure has now moved into the Tasman, weakening rapidly as it does so. In the south a small trough of low pressure off the Gippsland coast is aiding a N-NE flow through temperate NSW with a S’ly change on the radar for tomorrow. The remnants of a low near the South Island are now dissipating after a final flare up yesterday.
In the short run and small E/NE-NE swell from the infeed into low off Gippsland supplies small, fun 2ft surf tomorrow with light S’lies. We’ll also see the last of small SE swell through Thurs with sets to 2ft.
The low moves away through Fri with tiny leftovers, some small S swell less than 1-2ft and light winds.
Over the weekend and the progression of a strong zonal front that briefly wobbles NE and aims up more directly into the Tasman Sea is expected to see pulses of S swell over the weekend. Initially small on Sat morning in the 2ft range with variable winds all day and surf building to 2-3ft. Stronger S swell then fills in Sun with size to 4ft at S facing beaches and N’ly winds as a new high cell drifts into the Tasman nor-east of Tasmania.
S swell backs down a notch into Mon with S’ly winds before another passing low brings a solid pulse of of S swell wrap with sets to 3ft+ on Tues and winds and winds tending light as high pressure crosses the state.
Further ahead and more S and even a rare SSE swell is on the menu for next week with swell backing down Wed before the SSE swell pulses Thurs to 3ft.
Check back Frj and we’ll see how winds are shaping up, at this stage it looks like winds stay light under the influence of high pressure.
Seeya then.
