Recap
Small mix of E/NE swells through Thurs with SE winds, surf has tended from the S today in the 2ft range with light N winds.
This weekend and next (May 7 - 16)
A complex low forming over Tasmania today is forcing a large high north, while a coastal trough is expected to form off the SEQLD/NENSW coast, energising a large fetch in the Tasman Sea later next week, benefiting Tasmania.
Tiny surf Sat should build from the S on Sun as the low starts to track E of the state, with a thin fetch of SW to S gales off the SE of the state. Expect surf to build into the 3ft range Sun, with fresh SW winds on offer.
Surf rapidly drops off Mon easing back to tiny with light winds as a high pressure centre moves over the state.
That tiny surf and settled conditions is expected to last through until Thurs as the large high drifts to the E and a fetch of NE winds builds off the South Coast, extending down to Bass Strait. Expect developing N to NE winds and surf building into the 3ft range through Thurs.
Surf builds to much bigger levels Fri as the fetch strengthens and extends along the NSW coast. This should see surf in the 6ft range possibly reaching 6-8ft during the day but with mod/fresh N winds alongside of it.
Solid surf from the NE then holds through next weekend as a large fetch of E/NE to NE winds extends through the Tasman Sea. W’ly winds should bring excellent conditions. Pencil in next weekend for a surf.
Check back Mon for a fresh update and have a great weekend!
