Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 6th May)

Best Days: Saturday south swell magnets, possibly early Sunday

Recap

A few fun leftovers out of the S'th yesterday, tiny today.

This week and weekend (May 7 - 10)

We've now got a hint of more surf on the cards for the weekend, with a strong low that traversed east-southeast through the South Arm's swell window yesterday now re-intensifying south-west of New Zealand.

We're expected to see a polar fetch of severe-gale S/SW winds generated just within our southern swell window, producing a good S'ly groundswell that may be seen late Friday, though will peak Saturday morning to 3ft across the south swell magnets.

A drop in size should be seen through the late afternoon, easing from 1-2ft on Sunday.

The models are showing some N'ly windswell in the mix as well on the weekend, but the fetch linked to this still looks to north and brief to generate any surfable size.

Local winds for Saturday's S'ly groundswell will be favourable and fresh to strong from the N/NW all day, W'ly Sunday.

Longer term we may see some new S'ly swell mid-late next week, but this is a while away so focus on Saturday.
