Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 13th March)

Best Days: Saturday morning keen surfers, desperate surfers Sunday morning

Recap

Not much in the way of surf yesterday with a bit more N/NE windswell today, improving now with a shift in winds.

This weekend and week (Mar 14 - 20)

Any NNE windswell seen today will be gone tomorrow after a strong overnight S/SW change, which will kick up a close-range S'ly swell tomorrow.

It's looking a little stronger again now with sets to 3-4ft across south facing beaches but with SW tending SE winds, possible variable into the afternoon.

Sunday looks clean with a W/SW offshore and easing S/SE swell 2ft+.

Looking at next week and we've got a small S'ly groundswell for Monday but I wouldn't expect much over 1-2ft on the south swell magnets. This will be generated by a strengthening polar low south-west of the state over the coming days, generating a fetch of pre-frontal W/NW gales.

Winds won't be ideal with a morning SW breeze, tending SE through the day.

Looking at the outlook for the rest of the week and there's nothing major on the cards now, with Tropical Cyclone Gretel due to be whisked away too quick to the east behind New Zealand compared to forecasts earlier in the week.

Instead small levels of background swell to 2ft are due later next week, but more on this next week. Have a great weekend!
