Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 10th January)

Best Days: Sunday afternoon, Monday, early Tuesday protected spots, Wednesday AM

Recap

Small and clean waves to 1-2ft yesterday, while today's better pulse of N/NE windswell has come in a bit above expectations and to a good 3-4ft across the East Coast. Winds are favourable but will swing straighter offshore late in the day.

This weekend and next week (Jan 11 - 17)

We'll see today's N/NE windswell fading overnight, with a 'bombing low' moving in from the south-west this evening, cutting off the inflow of N/NE winds.

We'll see clean conditions tomorrow morning with westerly offshore winds ahead of sea breezes and easing surf from 1-2ft max, if not tiny surf across the coast.

We then look to the S'ly groundswell generated by the low itself, and we're expected to see a fetch of severe-gale to storm-force SW-S/SW winds generated through our southern swell window tomorrow, with a polar fetch of S/SE winds wrapping around the south of the low into Sunday.

This should produce a good, prolonged S'ly groundswell event, with the largest and first pulse filling in Sunday and peaking into the afternoon with sets to 6ft across south swell magnets, a touch smaller and easing slightly Monday.

Tuesday should still see plenty of size with swell arriving from the polar fetch, keeping south facing beaches around 3-4ft, easing into the afternoon and smaller Wednesday.

Looking at the winds and Sunday morning will be clean with NE sea breezes favouring northern corners, similar Monday with N/NW tending stronger N/NE winds.

A S/SE change isn't favourable at all for south swell magnets Tuesday with N'ly winds returning on Wednesday as the swell fades.

Into the end of the week there's nothing too significant on the cards late week besides local and weak windswells. From next weekend though we could see some fun trade-swell, but more on this Monday. Have a great weekend!
