Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 5th October)

Best Days: Sunday morning, Monday morning, Tuesday morning, later next week and weekend

Recap

Poor conditions with a new S'ly groundswell in the water yesterday, though it was hard to distinguish under all the local noise.

Conditions have cleaned up this morning with the S'ly swell easing from 2-3ft at south magnets.

Today’s Forecaster Notes are brought to you by Rip Curl

This weekend and next week (Oct 6 – 12)

The S'ly swell should continue easing into tomorrow with leftover 1-2ft waves at south swell magnets ahead of our mix of E/NE swells into Sunday and Monday.

Over the past couple of days a persistent and strengthening E/NE fetch was aimed towards us, sitting north and north-east of New Zealand.

This has produced an inconsistent E/NE swell that is expected to build Sunday afternoon and peak Monday to 3ft across open beaches.

A more consistent but smaller and weaker E/NE swell should arrive ahead of this swell for Sunday, generated on the southern flank of the low sitting off the southern NSW coast.

While not ideally aimed we'll see some fun E/NE swell spreading out radially and coming in at 2-3ft Sunday morning, holding through Monday and then easing Tuesday.

Conditions will be cleanest each morning with light local offshore NW breezes, tending N/NE-NE through the days.

Longer term we've got some good developments on the cards, with another strong low due to form off the southern NSW coast, but this looks to possibly form into an East Coast Low proper.

It will be triggered by a burst of cold air from a strong polar front feeding up into a trough off the East Coast.

As the front pushes up past us a stormy increase in S/SE swell with poor winds is expected Wednesday, easing into Thursday.

We'll then see the low generate moderate to large levels of E/SE swell for our region late week and into next weekend as winds hopefully slowly improve. We'll have a closer look at this Monday though. Have a great weekend!
