Nothing worthwhile ahead
Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Ben Matson (issued Saturday 30th June)
Best Days: No great days.
Recap: Friday’s NE swell provided only a brief window of fun surf late in the day with winds not properly swinging offshore until early-mid afternoon. Starting from a small base, we saw a size increase into the afternoon but it then eased rapidly overnight, leaving us with very little options this morning.

The outlook isn’t great for Tasmanian surfers. No doubt you’ve already read the South Arm Forecaster Notes, but if you’ve come here for solace you’re in for a shock.
Essentially, all of our swell windows have been shut down as a series of vigorous fronts deliver an extended period of westerly gales across the coast. The storm track is riding too high in latitude to favour our south swell potential (though, there’ll be periods of good surf across the North Coast - albeit quite windy) however this set up is also affecting the synoptic pattern in the Tasman Sea, which is our east and north-east swell source.
As such, aside from the odd meagre flukey swell sneaking into the coast from time to time, based on the current model guidance can’t see any notable swell events for at least the next week, probably the next week and a half, and maybe even longer.
Let’s hope Tuesday’s updated runs have something more favourable to look forward to.
