Note: Today’s Forecaster Notes will be brief, as Craig is away on annual leave. Also, these Forecaster Notes will be updated Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for the next few weeks.

We’re now on the backside of our recent spell of south swell, with wave heights expected to ease through Wednesday. Winds will remain light offshore so exposed south facing beaches will still see some small peaky options, but get in early as it’ll become pretty small into the afternoon.

Thursday will see tiny conditions between swells, but the end of the week has some very nice waves on the cards, thanks to a developing trough off the Southern NSW coast that’s expected to form a broad NE fetch in our immediate swell window.

This will generate a short lived NE swell for Friday, and whilst early morning looks dicey with winds from a NE thru’ N’ly direction, a passing front to the south will shift this to the NW around lunchtime. As such the peak of the swell into the afternoon should also be accompanied by rapidly improving surface conditions. Wave heights should reach 3ft, maybe 3-4ft at reliable swell magnets at the height of the energy.

Small easing swells are expected into Saturday with freshening offshore winds as a series of fronts pass over the region. So, aim for an early paddle Saturday morning if weekends are your only option.

Looking at the long term picture, and with a developing progression of mobile fronts over the region it looks like we’re headed for an extended period of tiny clean conditions with occasional small pulses of south swell for next week.

See you Thursday!
