Flukey south swells for the period

Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 29th September)

Best Days: No great days with flukey south swells not worth driving too far for

Recap

A great mix of easing S'ly groundswell and new NE windswell to 2-3ft across most spots, smaller into the afternoon.

Come this morning we're left with tiny clean waves out of the NE.

This weekend and next week (Sep 30 – Oct 6)

The coming forecast period is quite tricky, with a progression of strong storm activity through Southern Ocean being too zonal to generate any significant size across our region.

Firstly a broad and strong fetch of SW winds moving past us tomorrow morning aren't likely to generate any major size above 1-2ft at south swell magnets by dark tomorrow, easing from 2ft max Sunday morning.

When looking to maximise any energy, the northern half of the East Coast will provide this, as the swell won't be able to spread back into southern locations as well.

Winds will be less than ideal for south magnets Saturday and from the W/SW, but Sunday should see better W/NW tending W'ly winds.

The afternoon increase in size doesn't look to likely, with the polar fetch of winds linked to this only being short-lived.

Instead we're likely to see south magnets just hanging in at 2ft.

We may see similar sized sets hanging in across south magnets through Monday/Tuesday morning owing to a broad and elongated fetch of W/NW gales moving through our southern swell window under the country the next couple of days.

While not perfectly aligned, we should see small infrequent sets from this source and winds will remain favourable from the W/NW-NW.

Longer term there's a small weak NE windswell on the cards for late week, but we'll look at this again Monday. Have a great weekend!
