Great mix of easing N/NE and S'ly swells tomorrow
Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 27th September)
Best Days: Thursday, later Sunday, Monday
Recap
A small hint of S'ly swell yesterday morning, fading through the day, but today our better S'ly groundswell has come in great across the coast with 3ft sets showing at south magnets with offshore winds.
This swell should peak this afternoon so make the most of it.
This week and weekend (Sep 28 – Oct 1)
Today's fun S'ly swell was generated by a strong polar front firing up in our southern swell window earlier this week and should peak this afternoon and easing back tomorrow from 2-3ft across south magnets, mixed in with a N/NE windswell.
The N/NE windswell will kick up overnight as a strong and elongated fetch of N/NE winds develop down the southern NSW coast, in our swell window (right).
The fetch will reach a peak in intensity around midnight before pushing east and out of our swell window early tomorrow morning.
With this a peak in size is expected tomorrow morning, coming in at 2-3ft across north facing beaches and easing into the afternoon.
Conditions look great all day across open beaches with a W/NW tending W'ly breeze, while Friday will be clean again but tiny.
Looking at the weekend's developments and a vigorous front moving across us Friday evening looks to be too west to generate any decent swell, but a polar fetch of severe-gale SW winds at the base of the front Friday evening should generate a good S'ly groundswell for Sunday.
We should see this swell arriving through Sunday afternoon and kicking to 3-4ft across south magnets by dark, easing from 2-3ft Monday morning.
Winds look offshore from the W Sunday and W/NW on Monday, but more on this in Friday's update.
