Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 26th May)

Best Days: No good days, check the South Arm notes

Recap

Tiny waves the last couple of days and the coming forecast period is looking a little hit and miss as well.

This weekend and next week (May 27 – Jun 2)

Tomorrow's inconsistent NE trade-swell will only be for the desperate.

The swell was generated in our far swell window, between New Zealand and Fiji, with 10 minute waits for 1-2ft sets at magnets.

Winds won't be perfect either with a N/NW breeze. Sunday should see straighter offshore W/NW winds with the swell fading from the 1-2ft range.

The flukey small S'ly swell possible for Monday and Tuesday isn't looking too good at all anymore, with a strong mid-latitude low dipping south-east across the state due to have no major strength once it moves into our swell window.

Therefore tiny to flat surf is expected through Monday and Tuesday before a weak cold front slides up past us Wednesday.

This will kick up a small weak S'ly windswell through the day, hardy reaching 1-2ft at south magnets but with SW tending W'ly winds.

Beyond this the storm track remains poor for swell generation off our coast, with a deepening low off the East Coast being too far north, and storm activity in the Southern Ocean, too zonal.

Therefore check the South Arm forecast for other options over the coming period.
