Fun S'ly swell for Thursday
Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 1st May)
Best Days: Thursday and Saturday at south swell magnets
Recap
Tiny waves Saturday morning, with a new S'ly swell for the afternoon, easing back Sunday from a fun 2ft at south magnets.
This morning there was nothing left, with tiny waves with N'ly winds.
This week and weekend (May 2 - 7)
Tomorrow should remain tiny, and into Wednesday a weak cold front moving across us will be too west in nature to generate any decent size across our south facing magnets.
We may see 1-2ft sets at south magnets Wednesday and with W'ly tending variable winds.
A better aligned S'ly swell is due Thursday though, produced by a polar fetch of strong to gale-force S/SW winds tomorrow.
We should see this swell peaking through the day to a fun 2-3ft at south swell magnets with W/NW tending variable winds.
The swell will ease quickly overnight, fading from 1-2ft at magnets Friday morning with N/NW winds.
Into the weekend we may see a flukey S/SE groundswell from a short-lived but very strong polar fetch of storm-force S/SE winds south of New Zealand on Wednesday.
Any swell from this fetch is expected on Saturday, with inconsistent 2ft+ waves possible at magnets with gusty N/NW winds.
Longer term, a deepening mid-latitude moving in and across us over the weekend is due to generate a fetch of S/SE gales up and along our coast Sunday evening and through Monday, generating a moderate to possibly large sized S/SE swell, but with S/SW winds. Better conditions are on the cards as the swell eases but we'll have another look at this Wednesday.
