Great run of easterly swell
Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 8th March)
Best Days: Every morning over the coming period
Recap
Yesterday we saw a mix of S/SE groundswell and SE windswell off a deepening low in the Tasman Sea, coming in at a messy 2-3ft across the coast with SE winds.
This morning some stronger E'ly swell from the southerly flank of the low filled in, providing 3-4ft sets with early light winds.
This week and weekend (Mar 9 - 12)
Since Monday we've seen the low in the Tasman Sea broaden and then slowly retract towards New Zealand, with the E'ly fetch through our swell window easing off a touch.
With this, we should see today's E'ly swell ease back through tomorrow from 3-4ft, smaller into the afternoon.
A very temporary low point in swell activity is due Friday morning around 2-3ft ahead of a large pulse of E'ly groundswell arriving mid-morning.
This is being generated today and through tomorrow morning by a good stationary fetch of E'ly gales off of New Zealand West Coast as the low re-intensifies, slowly dipping more through our swell window while easing in strength Friday.
A large pro-longed E'ly groundswell will result, building strongly Friday to 5-6ft, easing back from 4-6ft Saturday and 3-4ft+ Sunday morning.
Winds tomorrow should swing from an early NW'ly to the N/NE through the afternoon, light offshore Friday ahead of E'ly sea breezes.
Saturday looks good again with a morning W/NW offshore, N/NE into the afternoon, similar Sunday.
Now into next week we're expected to see another inland trough moving across the south-east of the country, squeezing a high in the Tasman Sea, producing a strengthening fetch of NE winds through our swell window Sunday evening and Monday.
This should produce a moderate sized NE swell event for Monday in the 4-5ft range but with E/NE winds.
A slow easing trend is then due Tuesday and Wednesday as the low slowly drifts south but with lingering E/NE winds. More on this Friday though.
