Recap

Flat surf yesterday, while today also started tiny, but a small N/NE swell should be reaching 2ft+ across north facing beaches by now with a late shift in winds to the NW.

This weekend and next week (Jan 14 - 20)

A strong overnight W'ly change will flatten out any tiny amounts of NE swell left tomorrow morning.

Into Sunday and Monday, the vigorous low moving across and south of us will projected a fetch of severe-gale to storm-force SW winds through our southern swell window and past the south-east corner of the state Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

This should generate a strong S'ly groundswell, showing later Sunday across south facing beaches to 3-4ft or so by dark, and holding a similar size Monday morning.

From Monday morning the swell will ease though, back into the afternoon and further from 2ft Tuesday morning.

Winds on Sunday afternoon looks to be out of the NE, favouring south facing breaks, and possibly swinging NW on dark. Monday looks good with a W/NW offshore ahead of NE sea breezes again.

Once the S'ly swell fades, we're due to see some fun S/SE swell filling in across the coast, generated from a stationary fetch of strong E/SE-SE winds along the polar shelf between us and New Zealand Sunday through Tuesday.

The swell is expected to build Wednesday, reaching 2-3ft across south facing beaches, holding Thursday and then easing Friday.

Clean conditions are due Wednesday and Thursday mornings, but a developing low late week may mess with winds Friday. We'll take another look at this Monday though, have a great weekend!
