Fun S/SE swell for Wednesday, with a small SE swell for the weekend
Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 28th November)
Best Days: Wednesday south magnets, Saturday and Sunday open beaches
Recap
Tiny waves Saturday but yesterday a small S'ly swell showed across south magnets with a morning offshore wind.
The swell has faded into today leaving small to tiny waves at magnets early.
This week (Nov 29 – Dec 2)
Tomorrow morning is expected to remain tiny, but later in the day, we should see a hint of S/SE swell filling in ahead of a peak through Wednesday.
This swell is being generated by a favourably aligned fetch of strong to gale-force S'ly winds moving east through our swell window, linked to a small low.
Satellite observations are looking good, and with a late kick to 2ft Tuesday, Wednesday should reveal better 2-3ft sets across south facing beaches, before easing back from 2ft Thursday morning.
Into the rest of the week, small to tiny amounts of NE swell are due from a weak fetch of E/NE winds meandering around the Tasman Sea from Wednesday through Friday.
No major size is due at all with 1-2ft sets max out of the north-east Thursday and Friday morning before fading into the weekend.
Light variable winds are due each morning over the coming week, ahead of afternoon sea breezes, while Friday should see a more pronounced offshore.
This weekend onwards (Dec 3 onwards)
We've got a sneaky but fun SE groundswell due over the weekend, produced over the next 48 hours by a good fetch of strong E/SE winds south-east of New Zealand. This fetch will push westerly towards us slightly, helping in the swell generation.
This swell will be inconsistent but should arrive through Saturday, building to an inconsistent 2ft+ across open beaches, easing from 2ft Sunday morning.
Favourable offshore winds are due, but we'll have another look at this Wednesday.
