Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 17th August)

Best Days: Tomorrow morning small SE swell, later Friday open beaches, later Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at south magnets

Recap

Nothing to surf again the last couple of days.

This week and weekend (Aug 18 - 21)

A S'ly change moving up the coast this afternoon is due to be weaker than forecast on Monday and also the fetch of E/SE winds aimed towards us look very average.

This has resulted in a downgrade in the expected S/SE swell across the coast tomorrow morning, and E/SE swell for the arvo, with no major size due at all.

Small weak 2ft waves are due across open beaches with a light offshore wind, increasing from the N'th through the afternoon.

The N'ly wind will be linked to a deep and powerful low approaching from the west, and with this a bit more N/NE windswell is expected across the coast Friday.

North-east facing beaches are expected to kick to 2-3ft through the day, but conditions will be poor here with fresh to strong N/NW winds ahead of a mid-late afternoon W/NW change (open beaches will be worth a look late).

Come Saturday there won't be much left on the coast with maybe 1-1.5ft sets at magnets.

Into next week some fun S'ly swell is still on the cards for our coast, as the low moving in from the west weakens and stalls south of us over the weekend.

A fetch of strong S'ly winds will be generated in our southern swell window from Saturday afternoon through Monday morning, producing a fun pulse of S'ly swell. This swell is expected to build Monday, peak Tuesday around 3-4ft at south facing breaks, then easing Wednesday.

Offshore N/NW winds are due for the most part, tending more N/NE Tuesday afternoon and early Wednesday. We'll have another look at this Friday.
