Eastern Tasmania Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 30th March)

Best Days: Friday onwards in southern corners

Recap

Fun clean easing S/SE swell on Saturday that became much smaller into Sunday but with persistent offshore winds. Today the ocean was near flat and unsurfable.

This week (Mar 31 – Apr 3)

There's nothing expected across the coast until Thursday when a strong S'ly change is due to push up past our coast early morning. This should kick up a solid increase in S'ly windswell, reaching 4-5ft across south facing beaches but with strong S/SE winds.

This change is related to a deepening surface trough pushing across the region, with a low forecast to form off our East Coast and possibly stall through Friday.

This would see the swell become bigger from the S'th into Friday possibly reaching 6-8ft across south facing beaches if current model guidance comes off. Winds would also improve as the low drifts south-east, swinging winds SW, but this will all have to be reviewed on Wednesday as the models are still a touch divergent.

Longer term we'll see whatever swell develops Friday, easing through the weekend with the possibility of a developing Tasman Low through next week generating E/NE swell, but more on this Wednesday.
