Best Days: Wednesday once winds swing offshore

Recap

Tiny to flat waves with no decent surfing options Saturday and then a slight kick in S'ly windswell yesterday with less than favourable winds.

Today a better S'ly groundswell to 2ft or so across the coast has been seen and conditions were nice with morning offshores.

This week and weekend (Mar 14 – 22)

Into tomorrow we should see a mix of NE windswell and long-range and very inconsistent E/NE groundswell filling in across the coast.

The E/NE groundswell from Tropical Cyclone Pam is on track with it hitting Sydney later today, offering infrequent 2-3ft sets. The swell should push into us overnight and come in at an infrequent 2-3ft across north-east swell magnets tomorrow and Wednesday morning before easing through the afternoon.

The NE windswell is expected to kick to more size through the afternoon though, building to 3ft+ across north-east facing beaches as a strengthening fetch of NE winds are aimed into us.

The fetch is due to reach a peak in intensity early Wednesday ahead of an offshore change during the day, resulting in solid 3-5ft waves across north-east facing beaches dawn Wednesday, easing off steadily during the day once the change pushes through. Conditions will also improve, so a surf from late morning would be the pick.

Come Thursday no real size is expected to be left besides the odd stray 1-2ft set at north-east swell magnets.

The next increase in swell is due through Saturday from a weak S'ly change pushing up past the coast during the early morning. Only a small 1-2ft wave is due to develop across south facing beaches but with poor S/SE winds.

We're likely to see some better SE swell into Monday and Tuesday once the front pushes east to New Zealand, with a fetch of strengthening SE winds due to be aimed towards us. Size wise we may see 2-3ft sets later Monday/Tuesday mixed in with 2ft of NE windswell, but we'll look at this more closely on Wednesday.
