OK Saturday, cleanest Sunday
Eastern Tasmania Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 30th July)
Best Days: Saturday, Sunday
Recap
The coast has been flat under this zonal westerly flat with no options for a surf, although the North Coast has seen plenty of W/NW swell.
This week and weekend (Jul 31 – Aug 3)
Flat surf will continue into the end of the week, but come the weekend, a fresh pulse of S'ly swell is expected across the coast as a cold front finally pushes more south to north instead of west to east.
A burst of strong to gale-force S/SW winds are forecast, producing a medium sized spike of S'ly swell for Saturday to 4-5ft across south facing breaks (under model forecasts) and 2-3ft at more east facing spots during the morning. A drop in size will be seen during the day though as the front passes, but also swinging winds offshore from the SW early to the W/SW.
Sunday will be the day to surf as the S'ly swell eases from 2-3ft across south facing breaks under offshore winds from the W/NW.
Longer term there's nothing too significant on the cards besides small and acute pulses of S'ly groundswell from the Southern Ocean, but we'll review this Friday.
