Central QLD: Flat this week, maybe some just rideable surf from mid next week

Nothing rideable.

Beautiful day, no surf

We still have a dual centred (dumbbell) low in the Tasman with one centre currently swinging northwards up the NSW Coast and the other remaining close to Tasmania. This is driving stiff W’ly tending SW’ly winds all the way up to the tropics - even New Caledonia is seeing this stiff SW flow!  With all the action down south the Coral Sea is in a classic mid-winter flat spell and will remain so right through this week and into next week.

A weak high in the Northern Tasman next week looks to set up a weak/moderate tradewind flow through the Northern Coral Sea, extending just far enough south to potentially generate some small just rideable surf for CQ from mid next week.

Weak trade flow may be just strong enough to generate some rideable surf next week

It’s still a low confidence event and we could quite easily see tiny/flat surf extend all the way through next week. It’s all we’ve got to look at at the moment though so we’ll flag it for now and see how it looks on Fri.

Seeya then.
