Central QLD Forecaster Notes by Steve Shearer (updated on Wed May 15th)

This weekend and next week (May15-May24)

Central QLD: Rideable for the rest of the week, with a (brief) quiet spell next week

Still small but rideable a little more size for the rest of the week.

Still just rideable, building into the weekend

The coastal low has drifted off, dragging a weak front with it, and we’re seeing a large high move over NSW before entering the Tasman later this week. That will see SE winds for sub-tropical areas with a small, building trade swell to ride.

Further south a strong front which will trigger a low-pressure trough o/night Fri into Sat. Backed by a strong high we’ll see very tight coastal pressure gradients with strong to potentially gale force S’lies Sat and more frontal activity.

This is bad news for CQ as it disrupts the trade flow in the Coral Sea, which has been hanging on way past it’s seasonal due date.

Good news is later next week the high sets up another SE flow in the Coral Sea with another surf pattern developing.

SE winds in the Coral Sea next weekend bring surf

Looks like a few small/tiny days early next week, rebuilding later in the week.
We’ll dial in those specifics on Fri.

Seeya then.
