Central QLD Forecaster Notes by Steve Shearer (updated on Mon May 13th)

This weekend and next week (May13-May24)

Central QLD: Ups and downs but generally a positive outlook for rideable surf

A few small days ahead before surf rebuilds for the second half of the week.

Nice and glassy for the dawny

The low which formed off the NSW Central Coast yesterday is hovering almost due E of Sydney, generating a SW-S flow along the Eastern Seaboard as far north as the sub-tropics. The low is expected to drift off and dissipate as a new high moves in over NSW at a more northerly latitude compared to the recent pattern. We’ll see some small SE swell as the new high pressure ridge builds windfield in the Coral Sea and Northern Tasman but this will be smaller and weaker than previous swells of this ilk. We should see that swell start to build either later Wed or into Thurs and hold for the weekend.

SE winds in the Coral Sea bring a small rebuild in surf heights later this week

Into next week and a new high pressure ridge looks to build in Mon or Tues next week bringing another round of fun surf as SE winds extend through the Central and Northern Coral Sea. So far there is no sign of a winter pattern which would bring a flat spell for CQ.

Check back Wed for the latest.
