Tiny to just rideable days ahead with a boost in size into Easter
Central QLD Forecaster Notes by Steve Shearer (updated on Mon 25th Mar)
This week and next week (Mar25-Apr 5)
Central QLD: Tiny to just rideable days ahead with a boost in size into Easter
Just enough energy for rideable surf.
We’ve got an extensive high pressure belt with weak cells in the Tasman and near Indian Ocean and a stronger cell in the Bight. Compared to summer high pressure we’re seeing a slight seasonal shift northwards in the belt although later in the week the strong high in the Bight does move towards Tasmania at a more typical summer latitude. The tradewind belt is weak but perisistent enough to produce some just rideable surf across CQ on the right tides.
This small, weak signal should continue for the first half of this week.
An approaching high moves east of Tasmania and sets up a ridge through Thurs and into Fri so we’ll see that S/SE-SE flow start to increase, with a small boost in energy expected possibly as early as later Thurs but definitely into Good Friday.
That increase should hold over the Easter weekend easing into early next week.
The Coral Sea then looks sleepy so expect a quiet spell next week.
We’ll see how that looks on Wed.
