Great run of surf now beginning
Central QLD Forecaster Notes by Steve Shearer (updated on Wed 2nd Aug)
This week and next week (Aug2-Aug11)
Central QLD: Great run of surf now beginning
Rapidly building swells across the region as a major SE surge builds up the QLD Coast.
A massive high (1035 hPa) is currently moving over temperate NSW into the Tasman Sea, with a SE surge extending up the sub-tropical to tropical Eastern Seaboard. The bifurcation between the sub-tropics and temperate regions increases through the end of the week with NE windswell in the temperate areas and E’ly tradewind swells building in the sub-tropics.
That surf is already building rapidly and we’ll see heaps of fun surf to 3-4ft over the rest of the week and into the weekend, although easing slightly over the weekend.
Slowly easing tradewind swell next week. A weak, troughy pattern in the Tasman, holding a light onshore SE flow across the region for Mon and Tues with an easing signal of tradewind swells is expected.
Surf is likely to go tiny/flat by Wed next week but we’ll see how that is shaping up on Fri.
Seeya then.
