This week and next week (June5-June17)

Central QLD: Size peaks Mon, with a slow easing through the week

Great fun waves developed over the weekend, peaking today in the 3ft range.

Plenty of size today

After a much more settled, stable May the first week of June is looking like a temporary back-slide into a more La Niña-esque pattern. A huge (1035hPa) high is sitting E of Tasmania with a low pressure system straddling New Zealand. The high is directing moist onshore winds right up the Eastern Seaboard. Let’s dive in.

SE trades slowly contract northwards this week, with size easing

SE tradewinds in the Coral Sea remain widespread through the week, slowly contracting north and weakening into the end of the week. That should see a slow roll in size for CQ with surfable waves slowly easing back to tiny by Thurs, flat on Fri.

Looking ahead into next week and another high pressure ridge builds in along the QLD Coast this weekend. Winds in the Coral Sea look more disjointed and not as strong as the current system but we should still see some fun 1-2ft surf develop Sun and extend into early next week.

Models are still offering mixed messages on this outcome and confidence is low this far out. We’ll flag it for now and see how it’s shaping up on Wed.

Seeya then.
