This week and next week (Mar8-Mar17)

Central QLD: Surf becoming tiny into the weekend

A slight perk E swell has seen waves in the 1-2ft range today with N’ly winds.

Just surfable but with onshore winds

A monsoonal low in the Gulf of Carpentaria and weak pressure gradients in the Coral Sea are leading to N’ly winds and easing swells across CQ. Surf eases over the next few days, back into the tiny range with a trough bringing variable winds through to the weekend. Mostly SE-NE in orientation and strongest on Friday.

Expect tiny surf to continue over the weekend and into early next week as a trough off NSW disrupts the tradewind flow from a new high drifting into the Tasman. This high is still expected to be quite weak but E’ly winds in the Coral Sea do perk up by mid next week and we may see an E’ly dip or low pressure system increase winds SE of New Caledonia.

Looks a bit weak but tradewinds should supply some surfable waves from mid next week

We’ll flag an increase in surf from mid next week although expect revisions as we get greater model clarity.
