Active surf period extends into next week
Central QLD Forecaster Notes by Steve Shearer (issued on Fri 24th Feb)
This weekend and next week (Feb24-Mar 3)
Central QLD: Active surf period into next week
No great changes to the weekend f/cast. High pressure is now moving SE towards the tip of the South Island, maintaining a SE-ESE trade flow in the Coral Sea. Tradewinds are being enhanced by an active monsoon trough extending from the Arafura Sea into the Coral Sea.
Expect Tradewinds to maintain SE-ESE winds across CQ and surf in the 2ft range over the weekend.
Surf is expected to maintain in that small, pulsey 1-2ft range through early/mid next week with consistent SE-ESE winds.
By middle of next week we’ll see a potential Tropical depression dropping down from between New Caledonia and Vanuatu and re-energising an existing tradewind fetch. That should see surf build later next week into the 2-3ft range, possibly as early as Wed.
We’ll need some more model guidance before we make anymore long term calls but pencil in next week for fun waves every day.
Check back Mon and we’ll have a fresh look at it.
In the mean-time, have a great weekend!
