This week and next week (Jan30-Feb10)

Central QLD: Another flat week, signs of life next week

We’ve got a troughy, unstable synoptic pattern on our hands with monsoonal clouds and moisture extending from the Top End dawn to a trough off the NSW South Coast. Through the Coral Sea a NW monsoonal flow is bending from the tropics to become more N’ly. The upshot is more more tiny/flat surf for the CQ coast this week.

We may see some small, long range E/SE swell from tradewinds in the South Pacific this weekend but size will be marginal- in the 1-1.5ft range at best.

Next week looks more hopeful as a strong high sets up a ridge along the QLD Coast and we start to get a healthier flow of SE winds in the Coral Sea. Thats a long way out so we’ll flag better times next week, possibly as early as Tues and see how it’s shaping up on Wed.

Slightly more robust tradewind flow in Coral Sea next week
