Central QLD Forecaster Notes by Steve Shearer (issued on Fri 6th Jan)

This weekend and next week (Jan6-Jan13)

Central QLD: Barely rideable surf this weekend and then tiny/flat for most of next week

Not much now expected this weekend as a tropical low moves away from the QLD much more rapidly than forecast, dragging SE winds away from the CQ swell window. There may be some just rideable 1ft surf across exposed coasts tomorrow on the right tides but expect anything surfable to quickly decline through Sun.

A weak, troughy pattern will see tiny/flat conditions extend through next week (see below). A much better week to hit the reef than chase surf.

Very weak winds in the Coral Sea with tiny/flat surf expected

Our next surf window may be next weekend 14/15 Jan as Tradewinds start to develop through the Coral Sea. At this stage it’s quite a weak fetch but we may see some rideable surf start to develop Sun 15th, with better odds for the week following that.

Check back Mon and we’ll see how that is shaping up and have a great weekend!
