Central QLD Forecaster Notes by Steve Shearer (issued on Mon 30th May)

This weekend and next week (May31-June10)

Central QLD: Tiny/flat all week.

No surf on the radar this week.

A cold front will push into the region overnight with a complex low pressure gyre forming from the front and remnants of the current low which drifted down from the Coral Sea. That system will drive gales across various area of the Tasman Sea, initially out of Bass Strait and adjacent to the Southern NSW Coast, then extending southwards to form a long fetch through the lower Eastern Tasman Sea.

Unfortunately the swell produced is all headed up the Tasman Sea and will not make landfall in CQ.

So with offshore winds expected and no tradewind or E’ly winds in the Coral Sea, expect tiny/flat surf to extend through this week and likely into next week too.

Check back Wed for an update.

No action in the Coral Sea= tiny/flat surf
