Central QLD Forecaster Notes by Steve Shearer (issued on Wed 27th Apr)

This week and next week (Apr27-May 6)

Central QLD: Active surf pattern continues as Tradewinds rebuild into the weekend.

Plenty of surf over the past week is set to continue over the weekend and into next week.

Super fun low tide peelers

A large 1029 hPa high pressure system is sitting smack bang in the middle of the Southern Tasman Sea in a deepening phase, with a series of tropical troughs in the Northern Coral Sea beginning to expand Tradewinds through the tropics.

These expanded and increased Tradewinds are set to directly benefit the CQ coast over the next few days and into next week.

Plenty of tradewinds in the slot

As the tropical troughs intensify the tradewind fetch through he Eastern and Northern Coral Sea we’ll see surf hold in the 2-3ft range, bigger 3ft over the weekend, with continued SE to ESE winds.

Into next week and the outlook remains positive for continued ESE tradewind swell in the 2-3ft range through Mon and into Tues before an easing trend sets in through Wed through to the end of the week.

Longer term and after a few small days SE winds may re-establish towards the end of next week suggesting more surf into the weekend 7/8 May.

Check back Friday for a fresh update.
