This week and next week (Apr20-Apr 29)

Central QLD: Surf re-building into the weekend as strong high pressure ridge forms along CQ Coast.

Clean but tiny

Just small waves over the last few days but the outlook is looking promising as a monster high starts to build a firm ridge along the CQ Coast over the next few days. This ridge is enhanced by an area of low pressure on the Cape York Peninsula.

This will see winds start to freshen from the SE/ESE during Thursday. That should see surf start to trickle up in size through the a’noon, with knee high waves developing.

Friday looks a better bet with surf getting up into the 1-2ft range during the day as SE winds get into the 20 knot range.

The weekend now looks really fun. With the strengthening ridge we’ll see plenty of fun 2ft surf over Sat, likely even bigger Sun, with some longer period E/SE swell in the mix from a fetch near the North Island.

Plenty of swell generating wind in the swell window

Into next week and surf holds at similar sizes through Mon and Tues with continuing SE winds, before trending downwards through Wed/Thurs.

Longer term and Tradewinds rebuild later next week so surf should start to inch up again on Fri with plenty of surf next weekend 30-31 of April.

Check back Fri for the latest.
